LISTENING FROM THE HEART
Originally published in The Mancos Times – February 29, 2012
In my listening of others, myself as well, occasionally I hear us share an epiphany with what we once saw as something plain, insignificant or perhaps even upsetting, now has become a great source of joy and comforting serenity within our lives. How over the years with our relationships, travels, set-backs, and successes we have evolved in what we now appreciate and are grateful for. This change in perspective reminds me of the teenager who years later says to his parent “Wow mom/dad, you were pretty dumb When I was younger. So nice to see that you have gotten a lot smarter now.”
Indeed, often life does take us full circle with our journeys in achieving improved clarity and maturity with what is. Perhaps even with this realization, there is no final truth, but an ever greater level of truth that exists for us at any particular time in our lives – one not absolute but an ever evolving higher state of enlightenment and understanding.
So even today when we might consider ourselves to be at an advanced level of consciousness, there are further heights, grander truths still ahead. Imagine if the phrase “greater truth” is not an oxymoron but rather an expression of possibility with our fundamental humanity, empathy and knowledge.
This said, perhaps it is wise to appreciate and be thankful for ALL that has occurred with our lives? If we believe that our journey and experiences along the way are our lessons, our teachers, and our mentors to an ever better life, we will know that our wisdom, harmony and happiness will become yet more marvelous. Perhaps the answers are the questions – “How has this prepared me for a better today, a better tomorrow?” What will be my next “greater truth”?
