Using Ice Cleats & Crampons
Chapter 11 covers two approaches you may wish to take regarding losing ground with recent achievements and successes. One strategy is proactive and is a tool called Ice Cleats. The other tool is reactive and is called Crampons.
Ice Cleats =Proactive habits to prevent regression with your well-deserved and earned progress:
1. Develop and use an Empowering Mantra throughout the day, every day. Write down your current empowering Mantra below:

2. Establish and use a Marvelous Start Morning Routine each day shortly after you awaken, as covered in the “Marvelous Start Morning Routine” Worksheet … your proactive approach begins here with proactive Intentional Simple Tiny Efforts for Progress (ISTEPs) planned daily within your morning routine. Write down some potential daily proactive ISTEPs you may commit to each morning as part of this routine.

3. Set a day, time interval, and place for your Week in Review Session as described in Conducting a “Week in Review Session.” Write down the day of the week and the start and stop time for your Week In Review Sessions below (for example, Saturday 9:00-9:45 AM. in the dining room):

4. Put in place and use a Follow-Up Setback System (FUSS) with its FUSS log (see Using the “Follow-Up Setback System” worksheet). Use this shortly after seeing regression beginning to take place. Write down below what you will use as your FUSS log for recording setbacks, mistakes, and upsets (for example, a small pad or note section in your smartphone):

Crampons = Reactive routine and process for dealing with after the fact back sliding and regression:
1. First Phase, Damage Control Phase: After experiencing a setback, take damage control action as necessary. Although this is a reactive response, we can proactively plan for it. This is similar to having a spare tire in your automobile trunk, knowing CPR, or a dollar fund set aside for emergencies. List below some possible actions that will be taken as part of a wise damage control response (examples: politely extricate yourself ASAP, sincerely apologize if there is a possibility you may have made a mistake, do what is needed if there is a physical danger to self or another such as seeking medical attention or calling a trusted confidant):

2. Second Phase, schedule for later assessment: Record the setback, mistake, or upset in your FUSS log for later handling during your Week in Review Session. Write down some examples of setbacks that are objective, do not jump to conclusions with the cause(s). It is best to avoid words like “because,” rather only record the facts such as “I raised my voice and became agitated and angry with my significant other when they asked me where I had been for the last few hours.” Write some objective examples of FUSS log entries below:
